Tokyo Day 1

Have been in Japan for around a week and I have a serious lack of money right now. Everything in Tokyo's so cute and I feel like buying everything but firstly, I have not enought money left and secondly, my luggage's seriously full already. Anyway, as I havent managed to sort out my Osaka photos, I'm going to blog about Tokyo instead now. Whee~

Arrived in Tokyo by a night bus from Osaka on the 23rd. The night bus was seriously horrible(but cheap) and I couldn't really sleep on it. Got off at Shinjuku station, got lost, squeezed through the horrendous amount of people, got lost again and finally arrived in Ikebukuro. As the check-in time was 3pm, we decided to place our luggages with the hotel first so that we would'nt have to lug them with us while shopping. Guess what?! The place where you put the luggages is SELF-SERVICE, i.e., anyone can just go in and take your luggage without your knowledge. WTF?! How unsafe...but...like we had a choice. Ate lunch at Macdonald's and I ordered the Salsa Chicken Burger which is currently not available now. Heehee, I love limited edition stuff!

A Macdonald's meal in Japan is kind of expensive considering that it costs about SGD$8 but the food's really good. Look at the french fry! Freaking long lar! One bad thing is that you have to ask them for ketchup as they wont give it to you automatically. Oh, and never order iced tea there unless you like pungent flower tea. I almost died drinking the tea up.

After lunch, we went to Tokyu Hands to shop. They have like everything imaginable there. They have like Kojima Yoshio T-shirts,

Edo Harumi T-shirts,

wigs for you to look like Bae Yong Jun in Winter Sonata (wtf),

fish-head masks,

wigs to make you look like an auntie,

masks for you to dress up like a psycho killer,

and even costumes to make you look like a different kind of living thing.

Oh wait, there's also this boob ball thingy where you can erm...squeeze them to relieve stress? I dont know.

There's also a pet shop on the highest level of the store where you can get pet clothes, food, baskets, diapers (yes, pets have diapers too!) and many other pet-related stuff. You can also pay like 600yen to play with cats but seriously, I think that it's too expensive.

Returned back to the hotel to shower and rest before meeting up with Fulin's friend, Yasuko, for dinner. Ate at Saizeriya where I ordered this spinach+cheese dish. Although it was just vegetables topped with melted cheese, it was freaking good.

Had an ice-cream dessert too~. How not to get fat in Japan you tell me!!!

So yup, this basically ends my first day in Tokyo and I'm actually leaving for Hiroshima tonight. Night bus again. Damn.

In Tokyo

/Edit 2/ Fuck. There was an earthquake lo! In Iwate with a magnitude of about 6.8, at around 0:26 Japan time. Tokyo also shook a little at around 2 on the scale. That answers why I felt the ground shake earlier. So I called the reception again and this time he admits that there was an earthquake but according to him, "earthquakes are common in Japan". When I told him that I've not experienced one before(except for the little shake in Singapore), he went "Oh, but it's fine."

-_______________________- Shithead. I replied "REALLY?!" and put down the phone.

More about the earthquake:
http://typhoon.yahoo.co.jp/weather/jp/earthquake/

/Edit2/

/Edit/ OMG, I think that I just felt the ground shake. My friend felt it too so it's not my imagination. We were so afraid that it was an earthquake that we called the reception. "The floor shook!!! Is there an earthquake?" He couldnt understand what was "floor" nor "earthquake" so we gave up talking to him in English and used our lousy Japanese instead. His answer was that there's no earthquake and being the insecure tourist that I am, I questioned him..."Are you sure there's no earthquake!?!!!" "Yes." Okay, now I feel damn stupid and paiseh to go down to the lobby tomorrow. Then again, luckily it wasnt an earthquake. /Edit/

One word to describe the Japan trip up till now...TIRING. Finally left Osaka last night and took a night bus to Tokyo. Couldnt sleep at all on the bus and I ended up with a sore neck and butt. After arriving at Shinjuku bus station, the first thing that came to my mind was...Why does this place smell of urine?! It was freaking bad. Unlike Osaka, the streets of Shinjuku and Ikebukuro are pretty dirty with cigarette butts scattered all over the floor. Guess this is what happens when too many people stay in one place at one time.

Had to drag my scarily heavy luggages all over the Shinjuku station simply because I was trying to find the non-existent elevator. I'm pretty sure that there's an elevator somewhere but it was nowhere near where I was situated at that time. As it was rush hour with hoardes of salarymen walking in all directions, I really did not want to drag my luggages all the way to the where-the-hell-is-it elevator. Train stations here have a serious lack of elevators and I totally hate it because it means that tourists have to drag like 20kg worth of stuff up and down FLIGHTS of stairs just to board the train. Also, another point about Tokyo is that...the people here are like Singaporean aunties...and that's not a compliment. When the MRT train arrives, Singaporean aunties will always push their way through like there's no tomorrow. In Osaka, people queued up at the sides and allowed others to alight. In Tokyo, those assholes just pushed their way through. Seriously, if I cant get off the train...YOU THINK I WILL LET YOU GET ON MEH?! In the end, I just "lightly" brushed my luggage against anyone who was trying to budge their way up the train.

Anyways, I'm pretty tired now. In fact, I'm seated at the hotel lobby using the free wireless instead of going out to tour Tokyo. Okay, more updates when I find the time to do so~ Whee~

Karaoke in Japan

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Am so freaking tired right now. My legs feel like as if they're going to drop off and my shoulders feel like as if two sumo wrestlers are sitting on me. Yesterday, I walked for a grand total of at least 13 hours, with probably like a half-an-hour lunch break. I still have no idea how I survived. Today, I didnt walk as much(8 hours) but the weather was freaking hot and humid. Besides buying myself a hat to shield myself from the murderous sun rays, I also had to buy a towel to wipe off the sweat that was forming around my neck and my face and my arms and...aiyah, everywhere lar! I dont think that I even sweat that much during physical education lessons last time lo. The worse thing is that...I feel that I'm getting darker day by day. Oh no! I want fair skin damnit! Apart from the weather, shopping in Japan is damn good but damn sinful at the same time. Everything's so freaking cute and I have this tendency to want to buy everything that fits me. Why am I like that?! =(

And, I feel damn ugly in Japan. 99.9% of the girls here have PERFECT makeup, PERFECT hair, PERFECT style, PERFECT figure and PERFECT boyfriends. Eh, how unfair. I wonder how come their makeup never melts even under the hottest temperature, how come their hair stay bouncy all day and how come they never seem to sweat even if they wear at least 3 layers of clothes. I want to learn their tricks man.

On the first day here, which was on Friday, Fulin and I went to sing karaoke because we were seriously too tired to do any more walking. We wanted to go see Osaka Castle that day but we realised that it was raining after climbing at least 200 steps. Seriously, Japan's train stations have too many steps on the staircases and too many exits. No wonder the Japanese are so slim. Anyway, we decided to stop by this karaoke place called Oasis to relax.

Japan's karaoke seriously puts all karaoke outlets in Singapore to shame. Let me show you why. Firstly, you get to sing the latest Japanese songs almost straight away after they're released, unlike Singapore where you have to wait for either at least 2 months (Diamond Dust) or the songs dont get imported at all (Kbox, Partyworld). I sang Shuuchishin's songs~ Whee~ So happy.

Secondly, Japan's karaoke show clips where artists introduce their new songs or clips of the lastest CD releases.

Thirdly, Japan has this remote control which has damn lots of functions. It's small but it has lots of great stuff packed inside it. You can select your song, search for a particular song/artist, lookup the latest news, check the meanings of new Japanese words, see the period where the new Japanese words were created and so on. Singapore's karaoke only has a lousy remote control that allows you to select songs. Period.

Did I mention that you can sing not only Japanese songs but also Korean, English and even Chinese songs?! The best thing is that they even provide lyrics to almost every song and the lyrics can be viewed even when it's not your turn yet via the remote control so as to let you prepare for your song before your turn. Fucking cool. Lyrics for Korean/Chinese/English songs are also available. Wow! Below's an example of it. It's Jolin Tsai's song by the way.

Next, Japan's karaoke allow you to press the "clap" button so that you can add more fun to your singing experience. Eh, Partyworld and Diamond Dust also have ar?! Oh, in Japan, they have more than one "clap" button. They have ALOT. There are "clap" buttons that even have girls going "Kya~n, yamete~", "This is my first time...". Damn fucking erotic. Great for guys who cant exactly hear these words from an actual girl.

Japan's karaoke also disinfect their mikes and deodorise away and weird smells coming from the mikes.

They also go the extra mile for you. Not only do you get to sing karaoke, they also provide other services for you. They lend you handphone chargers, tambourines, reading spectacles, umbrellas and even help you call a taxi if you miss the last train. Not sure how true it is but...damn cool lar!

Oh, and the best thing is that...it's freaking cheap! For two people, two drinks and karaoke for 7 hours, it only cost us a measly 1000yen, which is roughly 13 Singapore dollars. Divide that amount by two and it's only SGD$6.50 per person. =D

I want to sing karaoke again man! Whee~ Okay, feeling damn sleepy now and I need to do my laundry(sweat-soaked clothes are so not pleasant) so I shall end here. Nighty!

他妈的

Tamade is pronounced like "tah-mah-there" in Japanese but it also looks like "他妈的"(a curse word in Chinese) if I read it in the hanyu pinyin way. =D

First day in Japan was fucking tiring so I shall update tomorrow instead. It's already 1.30am here so I guess I should be going to bed already...or else I probably wont be able to wake up in time for breakfast.

Wtf am I bringing there?!

Leaving for Japan tomorrow morning so I'm supposed to reach Changi Airport around 11+ tonight. Been shopping around for omiyage, drying and ironing my clothes (I can do housework okay!) and packing my luggage. Up till now, 6.40pm, my luggage is almost 20kg already. WTF?! How did I manage to stuff so much junk into the luggage?! Must help my luggage lose weight =(

Anyway, I'll be bringing my laptop with me so I wont suffer from internet withdrawal symptoms while in Japan. Whee~

Edit
My omiyage's 5 freaking kilograms heavy. wtf.

Malaysia - Day 1 and Day 2

| | Comments (2) | TrackBacks (0)
So, I'm finally going to be blogging about my Malaysia trip with my sister, that took place in May. Not very long ago right? Only about two months. =D

It was the first time that I took Grassland bus to Malaysia. The bus was pretty comfortable and there was lots of leg room. In fact, there was so much leg room that I couldn't even touch the back of the seat in front of me!!! Oh wait, was it because there was too much leg room or was it because I have really short legs? Anyway, being a suaku that I am, I was gushing about the free bread, free water(I know it's included in the bus fare but hey, let me be happy that it's "free" can?!) and in-bus entertainment. People were probably thinking stuff like "Where the hell did this country bumpkin come from?!" One complaint I had about Grassland was that they didnt provide us with earphones although there was in-bus entertainment. Hello, how to sleep in peace when I can hear Fann Wong's voice coming from the screens in front/behind/beside me?!

Arrived at the bus station in Malaysia at around 5am and while getting off the bus, I was shocked at the sight of tons of taxi drivers calling out to passengers "Ah mui ar! Need taxi?". In fact, they kept asking non-stop even though I was ignoring them as all I was interested in was to get my luggage off the bus. Took a taxi to Brisdale Hotel for RM15. Damn expensive la! My first impression of the hotel was "Eh, so lao kok one ar?" and there were quite a few houseflies flying in the lobby. Washed up before asking the receptionist if she could help us call for a taxi. To our dismay, there were no taxis available and so she asked us to hail one by ourselves outside the hotel. There was a wet market directly outside the hotel and we had to walk ever so carefully or else we'll get chicken blood splattered on us or probably step into a pool of bloodied water or something. After waiting for a long long la la time, we finally got a taxi. The interesting bit about the taxi was that the taxi driver's wife was still in it when we hopped onto the taxi. First time that I shared a taxi with people I didn't know.

Ate at Hotel Nikko and shopped at KLCC before returning to the hotel. There was this sign outside KLCC that read "Say NO to taxi touts. Get a metered taxi at the taxi stand" but guess what, all the taxis at the taxi stand REFUSED to go by the meter. We must have had rejected like more than 10 taxis before giving in to the "standard" charge of RM15 for a what, 5minutes taxi ride? Irritating shit. If dont want to go by meter, then install meter for what?! For show ar?! Assholes. Cheat tourists money only.

Reached the hotel, checked in, waited for at least 10minutes for the SLOW lift to come down, and finally reached our room. Upon entering the room, we realised that they gave us a queen-sized bed instead of two twin beds. Called the front desk to inform them of their mistake and got a change of rooms to the 9th floor, room 24 or something. My sister went to take a shower in the freaking dirty bathroom while I started to unpack my luggage. The doorbell rang and the guy told me that we had to change our room to 920 instead. Already freaking tired, I questioned him for the reason but he wasn't sure of it so I called the front desk.

Me: Hi, may I know why do I have to change rooms again?
Front Desk: Oh, it's because the guest who is staying in 924 hasn't checked out yet.
Me: What?! You gave me a room in which someone's still staying in?! (This explains why the room wasn't made up yet. Unflushed toilets, zero toiletries etc)
Front Desk: Erm, yes, so we're changing you to 920 instead.
Me: How could you let us into someone else's room? How can I trust your hotel to be safe if like that?!
Front Desk: ...
Me: I want to speak to your manager.
Front Desk: Okay. I'll put you through him.

Phone music plays for like at least 10 minutes so I got irritated, put down the phone, and re-dialled for the front desk.

Me: Hello, can I speak to your manager please?
Front Desk: Ok, I'll put you through him. Please hold on for ---
Me: No, dont put me on hold for like what, another 10minutes. I want to speak to him right now.
Front Desk: Oh, but he's out right now.
What?! Then tell me in the first place lar! Made me wait 10minutes over the phone somemore!
Me: When will he be back?
Front Desk: Around ten minutes.

So, I went downstairs to wait for him. When I saw him, I told him straight away that I dont want to stay in his hotel because it's not safe and wanted a refund. He offered to upgrade my room but I didnt want it because...WHAT IF THEY CHANGE MY ROOM TO SOMEBODY ELSE'S ROOM AGAIN?! He then refused to give me a refund because "Oh, I tried to give you a better room but you didnt want it what". WTF?! I started screaming at him and everyone inside the hotel turned and looked at us.

Me: Do you get it?! I DO NOT want to stay a minute longer in your lousy hotel! I want a refund!
Manager: No, I tried to give you a better --
Me: NO! Looking at how you gave me a room that someone hasnt checked out of, how do you expect me to continue staying here?! It's totally unsafe!
Manager: How did you know that the customer hasnt checked out?
Me: Well, your front desk lady told me.
Manager: It's not my fault that they didnt check properly. Also, that customer is a regular customer, so sometimes he wants to extend his stay with us.
Me: What does this have to do with me?! (If your regular customer wants to extend his stay, then in the first place, check properly and dont give me his room! Damn it!)
Manager: That's why I want to change the room for you.
Me: No, what if you let OTHER people into my room the next time? I dont feel safe here. Also, the toilet was dirty. Nobody cleans the room one ar?!
Manager: That's not my fault. It's the cleaner's.
Me: Stop shifting responsibilities. You are the manager so you basically are responsible for everything in the hotel!
Manager: It's not my fault.

The conversation went on for quite a while with the irritating manager trying to shirk responsibility for everything and he refused to give me a refund. Stormed up back to my room, called my mom to see if she was able to cancel the payment transaction but she wasn't helpful at all. Feeling seriously angry, I...cried. Yar, I cry when I'm extremely angry too. Somemore it was my birthday that day. Anyway, somehow, some lady called my sister to say that they'll allow a refund and change hotels for us.

The little introduction of the THREE-STAR Brisdale Hotel on google.
"Strategic location in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, top-quality Accommodations, warm (Yea, it was so warm, in fact it was so hot that I almost burst a blood vessel) and personal service, efficiently designed conference and meeting facilities and a pool with a view - all these are here for your unforgettable stay."(Definitely UNFORGETTABLE...although I only stayed there for less than half-an-hour.)

Aren't these doors supposed to be closed? Also, the bed in Room 924 was dented ok! DENTED?! wtf.

Stayed in Hotel Concorde instead. Although the hotel wasn't that clean either, considering we saw cockroaches for 3 consecutive days, it was so much better than Brisdale Hotel. Took a quick shower before going to Pavilion where we had foot massage and did the fish spa at Kenko. The fish spa was my first time and it felt ticklish at first but I slowly got used to it. Oh, and apparently, I have a lot of dead skin on my legs. All the fish swam towards me when I put my legs into the water and the guy next to me was certainly displeased about it. Sorry la, I didnt mean to "steal" all your fish lo. Also, everyone who walked passed me kept pointing out loud at the numerous fish at my legs. -____- Eh, I can hear you lo! Want to laugh also go further away ma! Anyway, feet felt damn smooth after the spa.

After a little shopping where I bought my Paris Hilton wallet(stop laughing!) and pre-dinner at Carls Jr., we went over to KL Plaza for dinner. KL Plaza seriously reminded me of Lucky Plaza in Singapore. Scary. Anyway, we ate at Moussandra. The food was pretty good but it was a pity that we couldnt eat more. Shouldn't had eaten pre-dinner. Damnit.

Baked mussels with almond & Parmesan cheese.

Grilled marinated prawns with asparagus & olives served with garlic mayonaise

Mushrooms with cheese topping. Damn delicious.

Grilled beef sausage with mustard sauce...I think.

Beef bacon, mixed mushroom & fresh basil pizza...I think.

Yup, end of Day 1 and 2 in Malaysia. More pictures at http://mizu-kioku.net/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=172.

Shopping~!

| | Comments (3) | TrackBacks (0)
Did a little shopping yesterday and today. Bought books, leggings, dresses and cosmetics. Damn happy with my purchases but at the same time, I'm feeling really broke. I'm seriously in need of money. Please contribute to the "Save Jiahui Fund" by contacting me. Any amount will be appreciated.

Nah, just kidding. Then again, it wouldn't hurt. Lalala. Accompanied Donna for her interview at SMU yesterday (and to also do some shopping). While waiting at the bench outside SMU, because one cant enter the SMU building if you do not have a SMU pass(wtf), I saw quite a number of SMU students dressed up in formal wear. Seriously, it was 7+ in the evening and it's the freaking holidays for goodness sake! Wear something casual can! I know that there's summer term but did they really have to wear so nice for school? I don't even bother putting on a nice T-shirt for school lor. I wear crumpled old T-shirts to school. =D Then again, I'm not from SMU...and that's probably why I got weird "Oh-my-god-look-at-her-dressed-so-shabbily" stares from formal-wear-students.

Before going to SMU, we had a little tea break at Coffee Club Express...or whatever the shop was called. Ordered a chicken pie and iced mocha. The chicken pie was so freaking good and it was the first time that I was served a chicken pie that was already cut open. The filling was scrumptious but it tasted a bit like the chicken vegetable stew by Campbell that I love.

Not-so-secretly took a photo of Donna while she was erm...looking at her iced tea.

Didnt drink my iced mocha straight away when it arrived. When I finally got down to drinking it, some of the ice had already melted and my drink was basically overflowing, thus, dirtying the table. Damn paiseh and sorry to whoever who had to clean it up.

Went out today with Kym to Vivocity. Ate at Earle Swensen's. The salad buffet was not bad, the meat was passable but the vegetables was...horrible. Ice cream was delicious as usual. Hee. Walked around Vivocity and while at Nichii Fashion City, we saw this Lindsay Lohan t-shirt. Erm...damn old picture can.

Next, we went to Zara. Normally Zara stuff are like freaking expensive but as they were having a sale, prices were slashed by ALOT and so...I made my first ever purchase from Zara. Whee~ Had coffee at Starbucks and I never knew until today that there's two Starbucks outlets in Vivocity. Seriously, need so many outlets in ONE shopping centre meh?!

Okay, shall resume watching online videos. Lalala.
Besides venturing out of my house to eat like twice a week, I havent been going out alot recently. My routine for each day is prettty much similar.

Wake up in the noon > Reach for my handphone to disable the alarm that I fail to hear every morning > Roll over and grab my laptop by my bed > Check mail > Watch online videos > Check mail > Chat > Check mail > Eat brunch or something > Check mail > Shower > Check mail > Watch online videos > Eat dinner > Continue using the laptop till 4am in the morning or so > Sleep

I seriously do not have a life lar! I check mail like every other hour or something and even though I know there's no mail for me, I still do so anyway...because I have nothing else better to do. Hope that this week would be better.

Anyway, went to pick my sister up at the budget terminal today and had dinner there as well...at 12 midnight. wtf. Who eats dinner at 12 midnight?! Initially, I just wanted a snack or something so I ordered a blueberry pie but ended up sharing this smelly steak with my sister. Food at the budget terminal is so not cheap...considering that the food wasn't really that nice. By not nice, I'm referring to the steak only, the pie was passable.

Speaking of pie, the reason why I ordered pie was because I had this weird craving for it after watching Pushing Daisies. I've wanted to watch Pushing Daisies ever since I was in Korea and saw like what, 5 minutes of it on television. Finally got down to watching all 9 episodes of Season 1 yesterday night and I'm seriously hooked onto it. The storyline's pretty weird but interesting and I love how colours are used on that show. Show seems unreal yet real at the same time. Cant really explain the exact feeling but yea, it's a cool show and I love the lady who acts as Olive Snook~Great voice and she looks damn good for her age. Can't wait for Season 2 to be out.

Cute fan that I saw at Best Denki IMM. Yar...totally pointless but whatever. I'm always pointless.

Yup, end of entry. Shall resume watching online videos. Whee~

Scholarship~

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Whee~ I got the JASSO scholarship for a short-term study in Japan! I am so happy because that means I got more money to spend in Japan! Heh. No lah, it means that my parents don't have to pay so much money for my school fees there. See, I'm such a nice daughter...........Ok lah, and also because I can spend more in Japan. =D

So, I'm going for this student exchange programme thingy to Osaka this coming semester. A little scared about this whole study overseas thing, although it's for one semester only, because I've never done it before. One sucky thing about it is that there's lots of preparation work to be done and I don't feel like doing it. Can I hire someone to do it for me? I'll promise to pay the person a lump sum of $0.20. Yes, I am giam siap. So what?

Nothing much to write except for the above two things because my life's totally boring recently. The only interesting thing is that I'm going to remove my stitches tomorrow. Whee~ How fun. -_-
